Punctuated Paperweights

by Nisha | April 6 2010 |

At the moment my desk is strewn with papers and printouts of schedules, forms, labels etc. We are jetting off to the U.S on holiday in a few weeks time and im trying to get flights, accommodation, tickets and everything else organised. I do follow the ‘Messy Desk = Messy Mind’ philosophy so when i saw these paperweights i could totally relate!

They are made out of aluminium with a lustrous chrome finish and are supposed to represent punctuation marks. There is a ‘full stop’ a ‘comma’ and a set of ‘quotation marks’. Nendo designed three paperweights like three different forms of punctuation so that users can sort their papers by meaning: the full stop for work completed; the comma for work in progress, and the quotation mark for messages.

Hmmm…perhaps i should stop procrastinating now and tidy my desk!!

Nature girl

by Nisha | April 3 2010 |

So apart from the actual designing of the posters i really enjoy seeing some cool kids names! Ive had some very normal and classic names and some really wonderfully unique ones. I thought ‘Gunnar’ and ‘Gampbell’ were really cool names for a brother and sister. Campbell is a nature girl at heart and loves her bunnies and her brother Gunnar is the budding mechanic/engineer. Their mum chose a beautifully elegant colour palette for each of her kids.

Samanthas poster

by Nisha | April 2 2010 |

I love it when clients send me a picture of their beautifully decorated bedrooms and ask for a poster to match aspects of the room. Just shows how much time and love goes into their project and they are very appreciative of the time and love that goes into the poster i create for them. Here’s Samantha’s poster, who has a very sweetly decorated bedroom thanks to her talented Mum.

Samantha’s nick name is ‘moon-pie’ so her mum asked me to incorporate a moon in there somewhere, i hope little Samantha has a smile on her face  at night when she sees her giggling moon.

Ive been busy…

creating some posters for some sweet kids, of course! The first three, pictured below, were for brothers Billy, Buddy and Harry- fans of transport, space, superheroes and robots and fairytales.

Then their lovely mum,  Kim contacted me to let me know she was adding a little girl to their tribe and ordered a poster for her soon to be newborn, in sweet colours with birds and butterflies:

I love that little knight on the horse and the rockets too. What would you have on your kids posters?

Steady hand and a Sharpie…

by Nisha | March 31 2010 |

… thats all you need to create a retail space witha  difference. Oh and you’ll also need the sheer genius of the Belenko! team who hail from Ukraine. They took a lovely gift shop and hand drew all the baroque features onto white curfaces.

Yes even the chandelier illustration on the lighting fixtures were hand drawn! How breathtaking!

Retro Stills of Moving Pictures

by Nisha | March 1 2010 |

Graphic Designer Travis Coburn recently caught my eye as he was the designer who designed the program covers for the BAFTA Awards(British Academy of Film and Television Arts). He has a uniquely retro design asthetic and a wonderful appreciation of colour, composure and texture. Heres a sample of what he’s did for the BAFTAs. Can you pick the movies nominated for Best Picture from the poster design?

Wonderful Walls

by Nisha | February 23 2010 |

Ive never ventured into the world of wallpaper. Ive never covered a wall with it and just the thought of all that paste and lining up sections and squeezing out air bubbles, worries me to no end! Most of the papers ive seen are floral and a bit twee. But the papers from Flavor Paper may just change my mind.

Now this may be a bit morbid, but i love the colour, negative space and the detail, from afar it would just be a series of vertical lines of varying width but up close:

its far more interesting, sinister and unexpected. I think it’d be cool in a work shed, craft room or kitchen- maybe a larged framed section rather than a whole wall, if youre a bit scared of it.

New retro posters hit the shop

by Nisha | January 28 2010 |

Well you should know by now, that if im a little bit quiet on the blog, its because i have something new cooking. Ive been working on some ‘transport’ inspired posters for a little while now, lots of drawings of rockets and cars and boats and im finally happy witht he end result. You can view them in better detail in the etsy store but heres a shot of them all together. You can hang them seperatley or together, thats up to you. I do like them hung together though.
